Working of 4 stroke Petrol Engine

Basic Parts of an Automobile

Some Basic Parts of an Automobiles are :-
  • Frame

A frame is a main supporting of an automobile. All the components are fastened on the frame. It is also known as the skeleton of an automobile. Now generally car use uni-body frame while heavy vehicles like trucks, bus use chassis (vehicle without body). Frame can be of different type  like ladder frame, x frame, etc.

  • Engine (Power Plant)

Engine is the power plant of an automobile. Basically engine is a machine which convert one form of energy into another. Automotive engine generally convert chemical & thermal energy (from fuel) in mechanical energy. Engine can be IC (internal combustion) or EC (external combustion). IC  Engines are use in automobiles because of compact size and more efficiency. Further engines can be classified into many parts. For ex :- Petrol, Diesel, etc. The basic difference between the is thermodynamic cycles on which the engine works.

  • Transmission

Engine can only rotate in one direction and also at same rpm and torque. So to transfer the power of engine in desired way transmission is used. It is also known as gear box. In this number of gears are present due to which we can obtain the requires direction, torque and rpm. Clutch is present between the engine and the transmission which is use to engage or disengage the power of engine to the gearbox.

  • Steering System

It is also one of the most important part of an automobile. It is use to turn the vehicle left or right i.e to guide the vehicle. Different types of steering system available are Rack and Pinion steering system, Ackerman steering system, power steering etc.

  • Braking System

Brakes are use to slow down or to stop the motion of a vehicles. These are work on the principle of friction. Many types of brakes are available now i.e drum brakes, disc brakes, etc.

  • Suspension System

It is mainly connected to the wheels of a vehicle. Its has springs and shock absorber. Its main purpose is to give smooth ride to passenger and goods and it also saves vehicle from shocks due to uneven road.

  • Electric System

It consist of battery, starter motor, alternator etc. Battery provide power to all electric devices like headlight, ECU, starter motor etc. Alternator is use to recharge the battery.
